Alexandru Tomescu and Angela Drăghicescu to Open the 2017 Enescu Concerts Series

2nd February 2017

2nd February 2017
7 pm - 9 pm
1 Belgrave Square London SW1X 8PH

The 2017 programme of the Enescu Concerts Series debuts with a homage to the unforgettable pianist and composer Dinu Lipatti, 100 years since his birth, offered by charismatic duo Alexandru Tomescu (violin) and Angela Drăghicescu (piano). The peak of the all-Romanian programme, featuring pieces by George Enescu and Tiberiu Olah, is Lipatti’s Sonatina for violin and piano, a brilliant piece that demonstrates the tragic musician’s outstanding skills as composer. With an evocation of Lipatti’s life and work by writer and music enthusiast Orlando Murrin.

The concert will be precedeed by the ceremony of awarding The Order of Faithful Service in the rank of Commander to Kasper Holten, Director of Opera at Royal Opera House Covent Garden. The distinction rewards Kasper Holten’s ground-breaking contribution to the promotion of George Enescu’s musical genius in Britain and throughout the world.

Programme:

Dinu Lipatti – Sonatina for violin and piano
Tiberiu Olah – Sonatina
George Enescu – Violin Sonata No. 3 in A minor

This event is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute.
