19.00 – 20.30, Room H216 – The Golden Epoch (Portrait of a Dictator) – by Mihai Risnoveanu
Before we talk about Romania in the EU, why not look back at what was happening no more than 17 years ago, when it suffered under one of the most bizarre dictatorships modern Europe had ever seen. This presentation looks at the megalomaniac personality cult of the former communist dictator, Nicolae Ceausescu, analysing its origins and expression in the fine arts. Followed by film screening: ‘Liviu’s Dream’ by Corneliu Porumboiu. Romania / 2003 / 40 min / colour / English subtitles
