DIANA IONESCU (piano)

Programme:
- Scarlatti: Sonatas in C major, D minor, B minor and G major;
- Schubert: Impromptus no. 3 and no 4, op. 90
- Chopin: Ballade no. 3
- Chopin: Scherzo no. 3

Diana Ionescu started to play the piano in 1988, at the age of 7 under the guidance of Prof Sanda Bobescu. From 1992 to 1999 she studied at the ‘George Enescu’ Music High school in Bucharest, and then with maestro Dan Grigore at the National University of Music Bucharest, which she graduated in 2003 with top marks.

At the present time, Diana Ionescu is studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Prof Ronan O’Hora. Diana took part in Master-classes with pianists Alexis Weissenberg, Viktor Merzhanov, and Dmitri Bashkirov. Her music education was greatly influenced by the support of wonderful artists such as Martha Argerich, Vitaly Margulis, and Ion Marin.

Diana was awarded the First Prize at the George Enescu International Piano Competition, Bucharest 2001, and received awards in many competitions in Europe and the US.

Diana has performed widely in Romania, Europe, Japan, and the US. She was invited to take part in important music festivals such as the Verbier Festival, Progetto Martha Argerich, the Enescu Festival, the Kyoto International Music Festival, the Shakespeare Festival (Stratford-upon-Avon), and Beethoven Festival (London). She has also performed in important venues all over the world (Barbican Centre, Saint Martin-in-the-Fields, Wigmore Hall, Covent Garden, Liszt-Saal Wien, the Romanian Athenaeum, Salle Flagey- Bruxelles etc.) where she was received with great enthusiasm and critical acclaim.

Diana Ionescu has also recorded for Radio Bucharest, Radio Suisse, Radio France, Russian National Radio, the Romanian National Television, and TVR International.

While studying in London Diana Ionescu is supported by The Ratiu Foundation.
