A total of seven orchestras from the 20 greatest ones in the world will perform this year on the stage of the George Enescu International Festival – 2015 edition (August 30 – September 20, Bucharest). Thus, the audience of the Festival will even be able to enjoy the four best-ranked orchestras of the world. The list of the world’s greatest orchestras was made by the prestigious British publication “Gramophone.”
Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Berlin Philharmonic, Wiener Philharmonic, as well as London Symphony Orchestra, named at the end of April by the prestigious magazine “Gramophone” the world’s four greatest orchestras of the moment, will give concerts during the 2015 edition of the George Enescu International Festival (August 30 – September 20, Bucharest). The Berlin Philharmonic will give an extraordinary concert at the Enescu Festival on September 3, at the Palace Hall, under the baton of the legendary conductor Sir Simon Rattle. The orchestra will come to Bucharest for the first time, after 15 years of negotiations. Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, “the orchestra with the most velvety sound in the world,” according to critics, returns to the Enescu Festival – the orchestra has already participated in three editions of the event – and, in 2015, it will charm the audience over the last two days of the Enescu Festival, on September 19 and September 20. The orchestra will be led by one of the musicians in full international ascension, the Latvian-born conductor Andris Nelsons, to whom the magazine BBC Music dedicates a portrait in the current July issue. London Symphony Orchestra (September 8 and 9, Palace Hall) will be conducted on the stage of the Enescu Festival by the famous Romanian conductor Ion Marin.
Aside from the world’s four greatest orchestras, other orchestras from the Top 20 made by “Gramophone” will participate in the 2015 edition of the Enescu Festival, among which we mention Staatskapelle Dresden and San Francisco Symphony Orchestra – an orchestra that has won a Pulitzer Prize for Music – which will perform for the first time the composition Voix de la Nature, by George Enescu.
