The radiant arrival of the young Japanese bride Cio-Cio-San for her wedding is one of the most beautifully evocative passages that Puccini ever composed; and, when set in the richly romantic sets and costumes of this production, the effect is glorious. Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier’s staging creates a ravishing vision of the 19th-century European image of Japan, a perfect foil for Puccini’s exotic and ever-popular music.

After successful stints in Europe, and especially in France, where she played at the Opera Bastille, Toulon, and Limoges, the mezzo-soprano Elena Cassian makes her Royal Opera House as Suzuki.
