Winner of the BBC Radio3 World Music Awards in 2006, Fanfare Ciocarlia is currently the most exuberant of the Balkan brass bands. They play fast and furious and almost seem to inhabit the instruments and their music.
Fanfare Ciocarlia present the only UK performance of ‘Queens & Kings’, their new album. Here they are joined on stage by Macedonia’s Gypsy Queen Esma Redzepova, Bulgarian Gypsy soul singer Jony Iliev, Hungary’s maverick vocalist Mitsou and Perpignan Rumba Gitano band Kaloome. Never before has the UK witnessed such a wealth of Romany musical talent on one stage.
Opening the evening is Hawk and a Hacksaw, a duo from Albuquerque, New Mexico who are joined by Hungary’s Hun Hangar Ensemble.
This concert is part of ‘The 1000 Year Journey’ and ‘World & Roots’ programmes.
