Symphonic Variations was the first ballet choreographed by Frederick Ashton for the stage of the Royal Opera House. Using music by César Franck, it is a study of pure ballet technique and the rhythms of flowing movement, a show piece for its six dancers.

This piece is presented together with ‘Checkmate’ and ‘Song of the Earth’.
