The Goethe Institut in collaboration with the South London Gallery presents one of the most important documentary directors working in Germany today: Harun Farocki. The Goethe Institut will show two of his most significant works: his short film Inextinguishable Fire (1969, 25 mins) and Videogram of a Revolution (1992, 106 mins) which was co-directed with Romanian documentary maker Andrei Ujica.

Videogram of a Revolution

For Videogram of a Revolution Andrei Ujica and Harun Farocki collected amateur video and material broadcast by Romanian state television after it was taken over by demonstrators in December 1989. The audio and video represent the historic first-ever revolution in which television played a major role. The film’s protagonist is contemporary history itself.
