Prof. Oliviu Boldura and Ms. Geanina Rosu are conservators of mural painting and teach in the Conservation-Restoration Department of The National University of Art in Bucharest. For the last ten years they have been directing the campaign of cleaning the interior frescoes, blackened and made all but invisible by centuries of candle-burning, in the churches of northern Moldavia, several of which are on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

The lecture will provide an overview and show some of the spectacular results of this cleaning campaign. It will emphasise in particular the urgent need to intervene in the church of Parhauti where tests have been already carried out. Prof. Boldura and Ms. Rosu are coming to London at the invitation of Pro Patrimonio and the lecture will be an opportunity to raise funds for Parhauti.
