The organisers hope summer will have arrived by Midsummer’s Day, so that Honegger’s Pastorale d’ete may indeed prove to be seasonally apt. Hedging the bets, there is also Schumann’s Spring symphony on the programme! Alexandra Dariescu, who has won over 27 national and international prizes, is the soloist in the perennially popular A minor Piano Concerto by Grieg, but the first sounds we hear this evening are elegant and witty ones courtesy of Fauré’s Masques et Bergamasques.
