With ‘La Cenerentola’, Garsington Opera takes on one of Rossini’s most popular works. Based on Perrault’s famous fairytale, Cinderella, the libretto by Jacopo Ferretti removes the story from its fairytale roots, adding a touch of realism and depth. The libretto combines comedy with pathos, and lively social satire with romance, leading to a dazzling complexity that is played out in Rossini’s 1817 score, which was written in less than a month.

Romanian-born soprano Eliana Pretorian appears in the role of Clorinda. Eliana studied canto in Romania and then on a scholarship at the Royal College of Music in London. She was the youngest finalist in the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Competition in 2005.
