German animator and film director Lotte Reiniger’s ‘Fairytales’ – brief, endearing animations from 1922 – form the basis and backdrop of scorching performances from Romanian violinist Alexander Balanescu and Russian accordionist and singer Evelina Petrova, combining the brilliant virtuosity of improvisation with raw, aching qualities of Russian folk music and singing.
This series of performances is part of the Deloitte Ignite festival at the Royal Opera House.

Alexander Balanescu is an internationally renowned violinist who brings a Romanian intensity and honesty to a range of contemporary music ensembles, including his own Balanescu Quartet.

This event is part of Deloitte Ignite 2010, curated by Joanna MacGregor.
