Corneliu Porumboiu

Corneliu Porumboiu is one of the best and most renowned Romanian directors working today. His films received international recognition through their presentation and prize-winning at Cannes (for debut feature 12:08 EAST OF BUCHAREST). Both his debut film and his second feature, POLICE, ADJECTIVE, are bought by UK film distributor Artificial Eye.

Victor Rebengiuc

Victor Rebengiuc, one of the most distinguished Romanian stage and screen actors, is a real acting legend with a career spanning more than 50 years. He has worked with all the greats of Romanian cinematography, from Liviu Ciulei (FOREST OF THE HANGED, Best Director at Cannes 1965) and Lucian Pintilie (NIKI & FLO), to Stere Gulea (THE MOROMETE FAMILY) and Dan Pita (SAND CLIFFS), while also working for younger directors such as Cristi Puiu, Radu Muntean, or Calin Peter Netzer (having the leading role in MEDAL OF HONOUR).

Dan Pita

Dan Pita is a veteran director whose films have influenced both his contemporaries and the new directors. In a long and distinguished career of more than 40 years, he broke new ground with films such as THE STONE WEDDING, and criticised the system with SAND CLIFFS. Among other films: TANASE SCATIU, CONTEST, PASO DOBLE, and LUXURY HOTEL (Silver Lion, Venice 1992).

Ada Condeescu

Ada Condeescu, one of the brightest young actresses from Romania, only 21 and still in film school, made a strong impression in IF I WANT TO WHISTLE, I WHISTLE, the Silver Bear winner at Berlin 2010.

Anamaria Marinca

Anamaria Marinca came to prominence in Britain with her Bafta-winning performance in Channel 4’s SEX TRAFFIC. Her cinema acting debut was in 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS, 2 DAYS, Cristian Mungiu’s Palme d’Or winner. More recently, she was seen on UK cinema screens in Radu Munteanu’s BOOGIE, and on television in SLEEP WITH ME, for ITV.

Vlad Naumescu

Vlad Naumescu is an anthropologist who, together with Klara Trencsenyi, directed BIRDS’ WAY, a documentary about the Lipovan (Russian Old Believers) community from the Danube Delta, an acutely observed and objective insight into a dwindling community.

Dan Burlac

Dan Burlac, one of the most sought after Romanian producers, is a stalwart of the so-called “Romanian New Wave”, having worked with Cristian Mungiu on the Palme d’Or winner 4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS, 2 DAYS and with Corneliu Porumboiu on 12:08 EAST OF BUCHAREST.

Magda Mihailescu

Magda Mihailescu is a film critic and historian, member of FIPRESCI. She writes on a regular basis for magazines and newspapers, and is a regular contributor for radio and TV. Five times winner of the Romanian Film-makers’ Union prize for film criticism and books about cinema. Her latest work is a biography of Francois Truffaut.

Liviu Antonesei

Liviu Antonesei, a well known and admired author and journalist, is one the best friends of the Romanian Film Festival, also acting as an advisor. In the past years, he has covered the Festival for Cotidianul newspaper and Timpul cultural magazine, writing post-event articles and publishing photo-diaries.

Stejarel Olaru

Stejarel Olaru is a historian specialising in Romanian contemporary history, and history of intelligence gathering. Besides several books and many studies, Stejarel Olaru has also worked on a series of documentary films, some of which will be shown in the Festival’s connected events.

Marian Voicu

Marian Voicu is a TV producer, talk-show host, and documentary film-maker for the Romanian Television (TVR). He is the moderator for several cultural shows on the channels TVR1, TVR Cultural and TVR International. Marian Voicu also works for the radio as a moderator for Europa FM.

Ioana Voicu-Arnautoiu

Ioana Voicu-Arnautoiu is currently heading the Chamber Music department at the Bucharest Conservatoire. Adopted from an orphanage at the age of 4, she set off after the fall of communism to find out about her roots, discovering she was the daughter of anti-communist partisans. She then began a methodical search through the archives to uncover the truth.
