Proconsul is a Romanian pop rock band from Bucharest. Formed in 1998, the group consists of Bodo (vocals), Dragos Dinca (guitar, and vocals), James Lascu(bass guitar), Valentin Petricenco (drums and percussion)and Rober Anghelescu (keyboard and vocals). Proconsul's early sound was indebted to '80's but eventually grew to incorporate influences from many genres of popular music. Throughout the group's musical pursuits, they have maintained a recognisable sound built on melodic instrumentals, highlighted by Dragos's guitar playing, Robert's composition and Bodo's expressive vocals. Their lyrics, sometimes embellished with spiritual imagery, focus on love themes.
Proconsul formed at Melody Night Club in Bucharest where the members were performing as a band . Within 2 years, they signed to Roton Records and released their debut album "Fata cu Tatuaj". By the mid-2000s, they became a top romanian act. They were more successful as live performers than they were at selling records, until their 2002 breakthrough album "Mi-ai luat inima" which elevated the band's stature "from heroes to romanian superstars" making them earning The Golden Stag trofy in Brasov and many others. Proconsul integrated dance and rock influences into their sound and performances, and embraced a more serious and self-aprecating image.

Proconsul have released 7 studio albums and one live album recorded at National Theatre in Bucharest and are among the best-selling groups in popular music in Romania
