Tuesday, the 13th of January 2015 starting with 19:00, the artist and fashion designer, Florin Dobre is presenting his new men’s ready to wear collection for autumn/winter 2015-2016 Romeo & Juliet at the Romanian Cultural Institute in London.
The collection was inspired by the well-known play written by William Shakespeare in the XVI century. Florin Dobre is rewriting the story and displaying his own version in an interpretation closer to contemporary of the most beautiful and renown love story of all times using Romanian fabrics and mixing it with the dramatic nature of Romanian stories starting with ‘once upon a time’. The designer, with an optimistic nature does not accept the Shakespearean tragic end of the play and tries to move it towards drama, because dramas have chances of a happy ending. This gives the designer power and ambition to always return towards hope, the classic of the grandparents, as well as the wisdom and patience they would have.
The event will be especially novel and original, Florin Dobre’s trademark, meant to surprise and take from the ambiance of a theatre play, where each model is a character. The story is a mixture between the Shakespearian genius and the creativity of a designer deeply embodying a 2000 years tradition in which the never-ending fight is won with kindness, simplicity, happiness and the knowledge of truth.
Challenged a bit by the avalanche of the present future in which the asymmetries and the futuristic textures have entered deeply into our everyday life, as aggressive as mass marketing, reaching into our souls, the designer tries to come back to the classic cut, symmetric clothes, the tailoring of the old tailors and the wonderful and impressive love story of the youth from Verona. The fabrics used for conceiving the clothing are made by Dorobantu S.A., one of the oldest and most prestigious textile factories in Romania.
The journey Florin Dobre started through the world commenced in 2013 in Paris with the autumn/winter 2013-2014 collection Panta Rhei. But the journey was continued, the designer launching with this occasion three collections in the British capital. He also presented in London the autumn/winter 2014-2015 Follow the White Rabbit and the spring/summer 2015 Back to London with 62.2 Meterscollections. These were a success and have managed to portray the identity of the Romanian soul in the cosmopolite London metropolis. This is also expected from the current collection.
The event was organised with the support of the Romanian Embassy in London and the Romanian Cultural Institute.
