ABOUT THE BOOK
‘The best annual guide to world cinema … IFG is the World Almanac of the movies. It covers production in more countries than most people could wave a flag at and is a mine of accessible information.’
- Philip French, The Observer

‘IFG remains invaluable as a guide to world cinema.’
– Francis Ford Coppola, director of ‘The Godfather’

First published in 1963, the International Film Guide enjoys an unrivalled reputation as the most authoritative and trusted source of information on world cinema. Now re-launched by Wallflower Press, the 2008 volume will be a special double edition presenting the films and festivals of 2006 and 2007.

Written by expert local correspondents, the book assesses the cinematic output of over 100 countries via specially commissioned critical reviews, which report on features, documentaries and shorts, as well as new trends and industry developments.

Other features include coverage of five ‘Directors of the Year’ (Fatih Akin, Suzanne Bier, Guillermo del Toro, Paul Greengrass and Jia Zhangke), a detailed country focus on Germany, industry analysis on documentary and the growth of DVD production, and a comprehensive listing and description of all major international and smaller local film festivals from all over the world.

With a fresh approach and aesthetic, this 44th edition of the International Film Guide heralds the return of a much-respected annual volume encompassing all aspects of contemporary global cinema.
