Born in November 1983 in Bucharest, Romania, Despina Boerescu studied the violin with the distinguished violinists Radu Zvoristeanu and Stefan Gheorghiu.
After graduating from the ‘George Enescu’ Music Lycee in Bucharest, Romania, Despina entered the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, where she works under the guidance of the distinguished violinist Jan Repko. Despina benefits from a Ratiu Foundation Scholarship and she is also supported by the Cohen Foundation, London.
Prior to her joining the RNCM, Despina Boerescu took part in many concerts, competitions and festivals. She has played on radio and TV broadcasts, as well as in major Romanian concert halls. In 2000 she was a laureate in the ‘Remember Enescu’ Competition. Despina is now finishing her second year of study at the Royal Northern College of Music.
The debut on the London stage came with a concert in the Romanian New Contemporaries Series, organized by the Romanian Cultural Centre, at the Romanian Church on 1 July 2004.
