On Thursday 19 November 2009, the winner of the Corneliu M Popescu Prize for Poetry Translation 2009 was announced by the two judges, Elaine Feinstein and Stephen Romer,  in an event at the Ratiu Foundation.

The Prize was given to Randall Couch for his translation from the Spanish of 'Madwomen' by Gabriela Mistral (University of Chicago Press 2008).

The announcement of the prize was preceded by welcome remarks from Nicolae Ratiu, Chairman of the Ratiu Foundation, and Judith Palmer, Director of the Poetry Society, as well as by readings from the volumes shortlisted for the award.
