A boxing lesson, a taxi ride, a short fling, an unexpected visit and a resurrected dog - each, in its own way, a survival lesson collected in the weightier and more reflection-inviting shorts session of our programme. Fresh and gripping, or cameral and contemplative, they all capture significant individual mutations, often in an absorbing cinematic language.

The Boxing Lesson

A father books his son a boxing lesson to prepare him for life 'in the real world'.

The Boxing Lesson

Alexandru Mavrodineanu

Mavrodineanu was born in Bucharest and spent his childhood between Austria, France and Italy. He studied at the Technical Television School in Berlin. Between 1995 and 2005 he worked in various locations around the world as a sound-recordist or camera assistant for various broadcasters, including ARTE, BBC and CNN. Mavrodineanu returned to Romania in 2005, to found his own company and to work as a production assistant for Catalin Mitulescu's How I Spent The End of The World (2006). His Boxing Lesson was selected by a number of international festivals among which was the elitist New York Film Festival (2007).
