The Romanian Cultural Centre in London , The Ratiu Foundation UK and The National Centre of Cinematography in Bucharest were proud to present the 2nd Romanian Film Festival in the UK : PINTILIE RETROSPECTIVE.

Lucian Pintilie is a veteran Romanian filmmaker, who began his career in Bucharest in the 50s and fled the Ceausescu regime in 1972 for Paris . Throughout his work he has explored questions of tyranny and remorse – often relating directly or allegorically to the history of his own country.

We presented, for the first time in the UK , a retrospective of the 10 films directed by Lucian Pintilie: from his first in 1965 to the latest in 2003, black & white and colour, all of which were awarded distinguished prizes.

The festival opened with the long awaited ‘The Oak' (Balanta), never before shown in Britain . This very successful film was in the official selection at Cannes Film Festival in 1992. For the main feminine role, Maia Morgenstern was awarded Best Actress Prize at Geneva Film Festival, 1992 and Felix for Best European Actress, 1993.

All the films in this Festival were brought to London by The Romanian Cultural Centre in London and The Ratiu Foundation UK , with the kind support of The National Centre of Cinematography in Bucharest , The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Romanian Embassy in London .
