In his talk about ‘The Discontented’, Alan will relate the heroic story of the Hungarian uprisings against the Habsburgs in the 17th and early 18th centuries.

Led by the charismatic trio of Helena Zrinyi, Imre Thököly, and Ferenc Rákóczi II – both Princes of Transylvania - there were moments when the rebels nearly succeeded in securing the independence of Hungary from the Habsburg and Ottoman Emperors. Across a canvas that today covers Slovakia, Croatia, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine, this is a tale of love and betrayal, of human nature at its very best and its worst.

Much of the action took place in Transylvania and, using his own collection of photographs, Alan will cover in detail the fascinating personalities and places of this tumultuous 40-year conflict.

Doors open at 18:30 with a sharp start at 19:00.
