Two new exhibitions at Horniman Museum | ‘Revisiting Romania: Dress and Identity’ and ‘Portraits from London’ by Ion Paciu

Horniman Museum and Gardens' has the pleasure to present two new exhibitions – ‘Revisiting Romania:Dress and Identity’ and ‘Portraits from London’ by Ion Paciu. The privateview is going to take place Friday 3 October from 6.30pm.
The exhibitions are open to the public from Saturday 4 October and they are celebrating the launch with a vibrant weekend of Romanian art, music, film and food - 4 and 5 October, 1pm - 5.30pm.
The programme will include concerts by Ovidiu Lipan Ţăndărică and brass band Fanfara 10 Prăjini, jazz singer Irina Sârbu, a literary event with poets Ioana Ieronim and Fiona Sampson, ethnographic film screenings, demonstrations by Romanian craftsmen, storytelling, food stalls and more.

Revisiting Romania: Dress and Identity exhibition at the Horniman Museum explores how Romanian folk art has been used to express social and political ideas. It will look at within the village and on the national and international scale.
The Horniman Museum has a unique range of exhibitions, events and activities which illustrate the cultural and natural world. Our collections of anthropology, natural history and musical instruments provide the inspiration for our programme of permanent and temporary exhibitions and events and activities. A full range of events and activities take place for different audiences including storytelling and art and craft sessions for children, and courses and workshops for adults.

About Horniman Museum
Victorian tea trader Frederick John Horniman collected specimens and artefacts from his travels around the world in the 1860′s. His personal collection became the foundation of the Horniman Museum, which is now housed in a Charles Harrison Townsend-designed building. Horniman’s original collection included natural history specimens, cultural artefacts and musical instruments. More about Horniman Museum
