Pianist Raluca Stirbat was the first person to draw attention to the deplorable state the Enescu House in Mihaileni was in, therefore she and initiated the “Save George Enescu's House in Mihaileni Campaign”. In 2014, she co-opted Pro Patrimonio – Romania’s National Trust – on board and the works to renovate and revitalise the house soon began. Soon after, violinist Alexandru Tomescu, who is also on the PP board, joined the project. Aware its potential, Pro Patrimonio proposes now the rehabilitation of the Enescu's house in Mihaileni and the creation of The George Enescu International Music Academy.
On March 26, in London, Raluca Stirbat – one of the most outstanding representatives of the young generation of pianists in an extraordinary classical music concert – joins forces with Alexandru Tomescu, a brilliant Romanian violinist hailed by the Berlin Morning Post as the “Romanian violin superstar” bringing together the internationally acclaimed music of F. Kreisler, J. Brahms, E. Ysaÿe and G. Enescu. The two are preparing a vituoso concert in aid of the renovation of the Enescu House in Mihaileni, event focussing on the importance of preserving Romania's great cultural heritage.
Further on, Anamaria Marinca, Actress and BAFTA Award winner, was one of the first ones to join our campaign this year and her kind words melted our hearts. When Dan Perjovschi came to London the other week for the opening of anexhibition at the Royal College of Art, where his works were featured we talked about the Enescu House and he agreed to join forces with Pro Patrimonio and to show his support for the project.
“The renovation of the memorial house in Mihaileni is an essential step in honouring the Enescu heritage. There is no sadder estrangement in a nation than to neglect its most sacred places.” (Sergiu Tuhutiu)
GEORGE ENESCU (1881 - 1955) is Romania’s best known and world renowned composer. His house in Mihaileni (Romania), where he spent many of his holidays, worked and composed parts of his masterpieces, belonged to Enescu’s mother and was built by her parents sometime between 1775 and 1830. This house is now in danger of collapse and destruction. Not only does it have memorial value, the Enescu House also stands as an example of the Romanian vernacular architecture of the first half of the 19th century. If this dwelling should perish, a powerful part of the memory of Enescu will be lost.
PRO PATRIMONIO (PP) proposes the rehabilitation of Enescu's house in Mihaileni, Romania, and the creation of The George Enescu International Music Academy, a centre of excellence.
OUR GOAL: £40,000 || Pro Patrimonio seeks your generous support to rescue and preserve one of our most valuable projects – the Enescu House. We have the goal to fully rehabilitate Enescu's house in Mihaileni, Romania, and to create The George Enescu International Music Academy, a centre of excellence for the study of classical music, a centre which through the process of its restoration will showcase traditional architecture, crafts, and the visual arts. This amount of money will enable Pro Patrimonio to carry out the initial works for restoring the George Enescu house, project which involves more than 60 people, 50 of them being volunteers.
