On Thursday, the 8th of August we showed two short films: WAVES (2007) and THE CAGE (2010) by Romanian writer-director Adrian Sitaru.

The screening was followed by a Q&A moderated by Mara Adina.

Adrian Sitaru came to RCC to talk about his latest projects, amongst them House Party (2012), a short movie that is attracting international attention, being already awarded the Grand Prix at Uppsala International Short Film Festival 2012 and the Onda Curta Award at Indie Lisboa IFF 2012. Currently working on his first short film in English shot in East London, Adrian Sitaru discussed with producer Mara Adina the stories behind Waves (2007) and The Cage (2010) as well as his forthcoming productions.

On the beach, by the seaside two people experience extreme situations. A beautiful Western mother asks a gypsy boy to look after her 4 year old son. A husband and father fights ennui by flirting with the same beautiful foreigner while teaching her how to swim. The story takes a different course when the mother disappears into the waves. Winner of the Pardino d'oro for Best International Short Film at the Locarno Film Festival 2007

THE CAGE (2010) | 17 minutes | 35 mm | in Romanian with English subtitles

Little Alex comes home with an injured pigeon and asks permission from his parents to keep it. While his father refuses vehemently, he also creates a path for reconciliation. Who will convince the other? Winner of the DAAD Short Film Award at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival
